The always-hard-working queen of indie-rock, Julie Doiron, is heading out shortly on a rather large US tour, with a few Canadian dates thrown in for good measure. If you live in the states, chances are she'll be playing a town near you, as her shows with Mt. Erie and Calm Down, It's Monday take her from New York to LA and almost everywhere in between. Canadians can catch her in Sherbrook and Quebec city in early September, and then Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto in early October. Check our live section for all the details.
PAPER MOON:
The members of Paper Moon have been busy. Moving, marriages, babies, new jobs...and around all of that, they've managed to write an album's worth of songs which they have started recording! Even though the first weekend in the studio was a whirlwind of bed tracks and Quiznos, the band was very excited to be recording again. We're shooting for a spring '09 release. There is a single from the upcoming album, called "What Are You Going To Do With Me?" currently in rotation at Q94 in Winnipeg. Help the band hit the charts and request it from the website or by phone (204-780-9436).
THE SALTEENS:
From our friends, The Salteens, we have another installment of the "two songs a month project". This month you get another a-side split single with "All We Want Is What You've Got" -- quite possibly the longest Salteens song ever. The b-side is by The War Amps and is called "All This Time". The War Amps are Scott and Kevin from the Salteens with friends Kevin Kane (Grapes of Wrath) and Shawn Mrazek.
Here is the link to download your free music (months 1, 2, and 3 are still available too).
THE VANCOUVER NIGHTS:
Yay! Sarah from the Vancouver Nights has posted 3 new songs on the band's myspace page. They've started playing shows around Vancouver again and have just completed their second full length record “Can we Talk?” Produced by Dave Carswell of JC/DC, these sparkling, piano driven tunes are timeless and captivating.
